10th Century Viking Cowshed Unearthed
“Archeological research undertaken earlier this summer in Keldudalur in Skagafjördur has brought to light an unusually well-preserved cowshed from the 10th century; the first one to be unearthed in Northern Iceland, archeologist Ragnheidur Traustadóttir told mbl.is.”

Steven, can you recommend any good Viking historical fiction novels? This is a fascinating and important part of medieval history that I don’t know much about.
Ben, I would of course recommend Bernard Cornwell’s Saxon Series (The Last Kingdom is book #1). But some others I’m aware of are:
- The Whale Road by Robert Low
- Odinn’s Child by Tim Severin (Book #1 in a trilogy)
- Eaters of the Dead by Michael Crichton
- Saga: A Novel of Medieval Iceland by Jeff Janoda
Those are a few that come to mind off-hand. I’m also currently reading a novel called Ice Land by Betsy Tobin. The book has yet to be released; I have an advanced copy of it. So far, the beginning is good but I haven’t gotten through much of it. Look for my review on it later this month.
Great, thanks Steven. I’ve added these to my Good Reads to-read bookshelf.
You’re welcome!
