Description:
This brilliant reconception of the Arthurian epic cuts through the familiar myths and tells the story of the real King Arthur: Artos the Bear, the mighty warrior-king who saved the last lights of Western civilization when the barbarian darkness descended in the fifth century. Artos here comes alive: bold and forceful in battle, warm and generous in friendship, tough in politics, shrewd in the strategy of war—and tender and tragically tormented in love. Out of the interweaving of ancient legend, fresh research, soaring imagination, and hypnotic narrative skill comes a novel that has richly earned its reputation as a classic.

I’ve had this one on my TBR list for quite a while - I hope to get to it soon.
I just came across it today. The cover grabbed my attention. Customers have given it really good reviews. If it makes it to the top of your TBR pile, I’d love to know what you think about it.
Am I the only one who’s bored to death with Arthur stories?
I do think the story is over-done, but I just don’t read enough Arthur tales to say I’m bored with them yet. I still want to read Bernard Cornwell’s Arthur series and Jack Whyte’s Camulod Chronicles. After that, I think I will have had my fill of Arthur.
Cornwell’s Arthur was excellent. Maybe that’s part of why I feel the way I do. After Cornwell does it, it’s done.
I second that. It’s hard to beat Cornwell.
I confused this novel with another I had read and not enjoyed, but when I perused the first pages on Amazon I was pleasantly surprised to find this a different book.
This was originally written in 1963, so it isn’t like she’s jumping on a recent bandwagon … (although I am).
Thanks for the post, Steve!
