My Bookshelf
A listing of books I own or books I’ve read. Mostly historical fiction and fantasy and medieval history books, though others are included. Please send me your recommendations as well. They do not have to be historical fiction, fantasy, or medieval history books, but may include anything that you find entertaining. Might be I will enjoy reading them as well.

Fascinating list, Steve - would add on the fiction side:
- Helle Haase In a Dark Wood Wandering (14th cent France; translated from the Dutch)
- Dorothy Dunnett’s House of Niccolò series (15th cent globalisation {sic!}, wonderful adventures packed with details on trade, politics, art & culture)
- Ariana Franklin’s medieval mystery series about a 12th century woman doctor from Sicily, transplanted to England under Henry II
- Norah Lofts’ trilogy - esp volume 1 on the medieval-renaissance period - about the building/development and inhabitants of a house in Suffolk (location based on Bury St Edmunds) - The Town House = the first - full of detail about practical concerns of everyday people leading everyday lives.
- Jan Guillou’s trilogy on the Swedish warrior(s) participating in the Crusades (available in English, in p/b)
I love the pic of Goodrich Castle on your masthead - used to live a few miles downriver (near Tintern Abbey): the whole area really is steeped in history and legend AND ravishingly beautiful!
Have enjoyed my visit/read - bon weekend!
Minnie, thanks for stopping by and thanks for the reading suggestions! Also, I didn’t realize that was Goodrich Castle. I got the image from a royalty free image site, and I’ve been trying to determine what castle it is, since it didn’t say in the description from the site I downloaded it from. Thanks for the info!
